Gold in a coastal district does not age the way it does inland. Salt air, humidity through the monsoon months, and cupboards that stay damp from June onward all leave their mark \u2014 on the ornaments themselves, and more often on the stones, thread and settings around them.<\/p>\n
Add to that the years when a cyclone came through, and a good number of Cuddalore households are holding jewellery that is blackened, bent, corroded at the clasps, missing stones, or in one case we see regularly, fused into a shapeless lump nobody has looked at since.<\/p>\n
